After the major update “Chronicle 1: Bloodtrail”, the player numbers of the action RPG Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem (PC) are rising again. We take a look at the situation.
What are the player numbers for Wolcen? Before the update, the number of simultaneous active players in November was averaging 253, according to the website Steamcharts, with a peak of 560 players.
Now there are 1,048 players on average and 8,122 players at peak. That is an increase of 313.5 percent.
Wolcen is on the rise again
Why are the player numbers rising now? Some players had been waiting for this major update. It is seen as a sort of “reboot” for Wolcen. It is even necessary to start over. It brings not only changes and bug fixes but also new content that fans have been wanting for a long time. This includes a new quest and seasons.
Therefore, players are returning to see if Wolcen has improved and whether it is worth jumping back in.
Another reason is a Steam sale. During the autumn sale at the end of November, Wolcen was available for 20% off, which likely led some to purchase the action RPG.
How are the ratings? In terms of rating, Wolcen is still at “Mixed” on Steam. The ratings for the past 30 days stand at 53%, while the overall rating is at 55%.
So not much has changed here. There are still players who like Wolcen, while others criticize the hack and slay. Opinions are very divided.

rlfps is having fun: “I’m really enjoying it, it’s such a nice change from D3 and PoE, and with much better graphics. The game can be a bit clunky in some ways, but overall I’m really glad the developers have invested some work again.”
Corvette1979 is disappointed: “There is so much to love and enjoy about this game. However, after an hour of playtime, I encounter the same ‘gamebreaking’ bugs. Losing progress and equipment is simply unacceptable for a released game.”
Moozilla on the other hand says: “Not recommended – Needs another year of optimizations and development/bug fixing, constant crashes.”
Will player numbers improve in the long term? It is currently hard to say whether the current uptrend can sustain. Wolcen has definitely improved, but there are still issues in the form of bugs. The coming weeks will show whether Chronicle 1: Bloodtrail has helped the hack and slay to attract more players in the long run.
