The starting island of the Draenei in WoW Classic – but in modern graphics. This is how it could look in Unreal Engine 4.
World of Warcraft has been around for several years now, and many of the areas have visually aged significantly. Time and again, talented WoW fans pick an area and recreate it in a more modern engine. Now, with the launch of Burning Crusade Classic, this has also happened for the Azuremyst Islands.
What are the Azuremyst Islands? Essentially, the Azuremyst Islands are the starting area of the Draenei. Originally, the island was inhabited only by a few elves and otherwise by nature, but the Draenei’s spaceship, the Exodar, crashed there. As a result, various crystals infused with arcane energy spread across the island, polluting the forests and creatures and causing numerous problems.
As freshly landed Draenei, you try to find other survivors, explore the (foreign to Draenei) world of Azeroth, and simultaneously address the problems caused by the crash.
What kind of video is this? The video shows a part of the Azuremyst Islands in a stunning new look. Thanks to Unreal Engine 4 and a lot of work, the WoW area now has much more detail and a significantly more realistic appearance. The comic graphics have been traded for more realism, making the game world likely fit better in more modern games.
The forest environment is covered with many purple crystals, and in the background, the Exodar looms.
Who created the video? The creator of the video is YouTuber SpazzGibbon (via YouTube.com). He has previously tackled several projects using Unreal Engine 3 and 4, but the Azuremyst Islands stand out significantly. He himself says he worked on the project for nearly a month in preparation for Burning Crusade Classic.
Hopefully, there were no expectations disappointed when he could see the direct comparison between in-game and his video graphics.
What do you think of this version of the Azuremyst Islands? Breathtakingly beautiful and a great work? Or does it just look wrong?
