YouTuber Daniel L has recreated the human city of Stormwind from World of Warcraft and given it a new HD look.
In World of Warcraft, there are plenty of large cities, but some of them radiate a special kind of magic. Especially in Stormwind, the capital of humans, many WoW players feel right at home as soon as the music starts or as they enter the city through the Valley of Heroes, passing by the great statues. After all, it’s the first real city that many players encounter.
YouTuber Daniel L has made it his mission for several years to wrap World of Warcraft in a new, modern look using Unreal Engine 4. After many other zones and areas have been converted, Stormwind was up next a few days ago, which you can admire here.
What you can see in the video: The video features a camera ride through the renovated Stormwind. The entire city has been rebuilt in Unreal Engine 4 and is therefore much higher resolution than in the actual game, albeit without the comic look. The ride starts in the Valley of Heroes and then moves into the Trade District, but also highlights some important buildings, such as Trias’s cheese shop (which works for SI:7) or the Mage Tower in the Mage Quarter, which can only be accessed through overgrown streets.
At the end, of course, a visit to the Cathedral Quarter, the heart of the human city dedicated to the teachings of the Light, must not be missed.
Would this fit WoW? A modernization to Unreal Engine 4 would naturally mean that World of Warcraft would lose its comic graphic style, which is a big part of the game’s appeal for many players. However, it’s interesting to see how Stormwind might look in a “more realistic” setting. Only the absence of NPCs makes the city seem a bit monotonous …
Daniel L has also upgraded the Twilight Forest.
What do you think of this “HD” Stormwind in Unreal Engine 4? A really cool thing or would it ruin the charm of WoW if the game ever looked like this?
