What’s the point of being a gangster? Michael recently wondered how much success he could have as an ordinary taxi driver in GTA Online. But apparently, players hate taxi drivers even more than griefers.
I “borrowed” a taxi from an NPC, drove around, and advertised my new business over my headset. The first people reacted skeptically to the offer and just stood there. So I continued. When a carless player was just buying clothes, I saw my big opportunity and went inside. As he got in, he apparently liked my offer.
He marked the mask shop on the beach, I took him there. But then it got uncomfortable: I asked for the fare appropriate for GTA Online, but the player just refused to pay. I kindly said that this wouldn’t work. Since the patience of players in GTA Online is notoriously short, one thing quickly led to another. Before he could shoot me, I gave him a whack with the baseball bat.
My next customers were two nice gentlemen who wanted to rob stores and annoy players. While they were doing their thing, I waited patiently in the car. However, the now furious police saw me as their accomplice. A crazy chase later, my poor taxi came to a stop, completely shot up, in front of a gas station.
Just as we were about to agree that I should be paid in weapons, suddenly my last beaten-up passenger interrupted the situation. Fortunately, I could escape during the shooting and start a new attempt.
While it was nice to see that my customers were coming to me, they weren’t interested in my services. Instead, they saw red at the yellow of my taxi. “Shut up!”, “Shut your mouth!” and “NO TAXI!” echoed from all sides and all headsets.
Okay, I lost a total of five taxis and a lot of money on repairs, drove three guests, and didn’t see a single penny. But no matter how much these gangsters and car nuts despised my down-to-earth transportation business, I wouldn’t leave this industry without a fight. Whoever shot at me would get run over.
After numerous players chased me across the entire map with their sports cars, the final showdown took place at the airport in the northern wilderness. There was nothing that wouldn’t have exploded; action director Michael Bay would have been proud of us.
Bloodied, I managed to jump onto the wagon of the passing train, and one pursuer became smaller and angrier in the distance. I changed lobbies and found myself back in the same wilderness. I ordered a regular taxi to take me home. At least one taxi driver got paid today.
