A team of deaf players has now managed to defeat the challenging Reef of Stars section of the Leviathan raid in Destiny 2. A special communication tool supported them on their path to victory.
The Reef of Stars boss demands a lot from players: The boss fight against Val Ca’uor in the Reef of Stars raid section is one of the toughest in Destiny 2. The mechanics require guardians not only a considerable amount of skill but also a high degree of coordination and communication.
Even for good teams a challenge: Even numerous experienced and well-rehearsed squads sometimes struggle with this demanding raid passage.
And now imagine having to do without voice chat for such important communication. This would raise the hurdle significantly for most players.
Deaf players have conquered the section: This task has now been mastered by a team from the BAM Optical Raiders clan. The special thing about it: All team members are deaf. Thus, they have still managed to tackle the Reef of Stars.

How guardians without hearing conquered the Reef of Stars
Overjoyed, but already thinking ahead: As the clan founder reported, the entire endeavor took 20 attempts over the course of 4 weeks until they finally managed to tackle this mammoth task in a 2-hour run.
The team was so overjoyed that most cried tears of joy when Val Ca’uor finally fell. All the hard work finally paid off – despite the enormous challenges.

But they are already thinking one step further. Next, they want to refine the processes and tackle a speedrun in the raid. The prestige versions of both raid sections will also be tackled soon.
Communication and coordination as the biggest hurdle: Since the team members were severely limited in their communication and could not rely on the most important tool – voice chat – they resorted to other means.
Because the biggest challenge was not the boss itself, but the timely coordination and synchronization of the entire process among all team members.
Web tool helps on the way to victory: Thanks to the web tool Javris 99-40, the deaf team was able to communicate with each other using visually depicted call-outs and coordinate the complex mechanics of the raid non-verbally.

Javris 99-40 – Not just for the deaf
What is Javris 99-40? Javris was created by a friend of the clan lead, who has been working on the project for over 9 months. It is an external web-based communication app for deaf players and players who are unable to use their microphone or headphones.

The tool allows for the easy and quick creation and announcement of visual commands or steps and is intended to serve as a link between all guardians, whether hearing or not.
How does the web app work? Players can open a session and invite more friends. All participants then have the same customizable interface in front of them. If someone presses a button or one of the switches, it becomes visible to all involved. So if the team leader presses plates, every team member immediately sees that they now need to occupy the plates.
A soundboard has also been integrated, allowing players who cannot speak to have a voice for necessary call-outs.
Javris is continuously being developed: The tool, which was initially designed for the Leviathan raid, is continuously being expanded. It now fully supports the other two raid sections World Eater and Reef of Stars.
What do you think of this achievement? And how do you find the web tool? Is it possibly even useful for players without limitations?
