Comfort
What does my head look like? My head circumference is about 58 cm, so I have a relatively smaller head. The headset from Trust fits snugly on the head and does not move from the head even during quick movements.
Basically, the headset sits well on my head despite high clamping pressure. However, over time I feel the pressure on my ears, which can become quite uncomfortable after several hours, especially where the headset touches my ears with my glasses.
Another disadvantage: The artificial leather ear pads become noticeably warm after some time. Additionally, the ear cups sit very tightly and could have been a bit larger.
The problem with comfort can also be attributed to the construction: Compared to other headsets, the Trust model lacks some comfort features. These include:
- a dynamic headband
- or swiveling ear cups.
The SteelSeries 3, which is about 10 euros more expensive, offers exactly these features and thus provides significantly higher comfort than the model I tested from Trust.
The Trust GXT 489 thus appears very rigid and inflexible. The weight of 244 grams, however, is pleasantly light.
Sound
I like the sound of the headset quite a bit. The built-in neodymium drivers do a good job, and most games sound pretty decent. This applies both for gaming on the PS5 and on the computer.
Nevertheless, you can still feel the weaknesses that I often encounter in the budget range below 100 euros: The sound overall lacks power, and when I turn up the volume fully, the treble area rattles.
Microphone
The microphone is surprisingly good for the price, but you shouldn’t expect a masterpiece. It is sufficient for quick and efficient communication with friends. I do not sound completely natural; my voice sounds a bit too high.
For recordings, streaming, or podcasting, the microphone is therefore only conditionally suitable. Here, I would recommend a dedicated microphone for your desk.
Conclusion: Good entry-level headset with weaknesses in details
For whom is the headset suitable? For around 60 euros, you get a good gaming headset for beginners. This is primarily due to the good workmanship and the sound offered. However, the comfort is not suitable for every head. If you have the opportunity, test the device in the store.
What alternatives are there?
- The SteelSeries Arctis 3 is a real tip for PS5 and PC if you don’t want to spend more than 100 euros. The comfort is excellent and the sound is good. The microphone is the weak point of the device. The successor, the Nova Arctis 3, is even more recommendable.
- With the Razer BlackShark V2 X, you also get a high-quality gaming headset with rich sound and good sound localization.
- The Logitech G335 is also available for around 50 euros and offers good sound but is more playful than the competition.
