Little by little, Capcom is revealing the monsters of their new action RPG Monster Hunter Wilds. MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya is joyfully looking at the reveals, as the list so far looks fantastic to her. She is not alone in this opinion.
Since the announcement of Monster Hunter: Wilds, I’ve been looking forward to hunting with my hammer in a new main installment again. However, it is only after the latest monster reveals that I am truly hyped and can barely wait for the release!
On one hand, I closely examine the released video snippets to learn something about the battles with the monsters. Do they look fun and challenging, or rather annoying? So far, I see a lot of fun. The new monster Lala Barina, in particular, seems tricky, as it appears to be very agile and has acrobatic jumps:
On the other hand, we use the parts of the monsters to craft our weapons and armor, and I’m trying to imagine what the designs of the equipment will look like.
Because let’s be honest: Fashion Hunter is the real endgame. And I have to look at Lala Barina again, as we recently learned about the armors for our cat companion and the female version:
If this armor doesn’t scream warrior princess, then I don’t know.
Okay, maybe I’ve already developed a slight obsession with Lala Barina. But that’s not all that has been revealed so far.
The silly monkey and the brutal chicken are back!
Fresh from the Tokyo Game Show, we now know that two special old friends are returning to Monster Hunter: Wilds. It’s common for Monster Hunter for some monsters from previous installments to return with fresh designs, and I’m always just as excited for these as I am for new monsters.
Congalala, the farting monkey
There is one thing I particularly love about Monster Hunter, and that is the humor. It’s a notoriously difficult game that you have to practice. But luckily, there’s also a lot of silliness in the game that makes me laugh.
This includes a farting pink monkey.
He has claws and can hold various items with his tail. However, his most notable attack is a gas cloud that streams from his rear end and prevents you from using items that heal you.
Of course, Congalala is a huge fan favorite with this powerful trait, and I’m seeing nothing but love for the monkey on the internet. As it should be.
Yian Kut-Ku, the ridiculously strong chicken
If you are still new to Monster Hunter, watch out for this damn bird. He may look pretty silly and is quite small for a wyvern.
But the Yian Kut-Ku has wiped the floor with me in the past. This is mainly because he is quite nimble and surprisingly difficult to catch due to his speed. Especially when you’re still new to the game.
I’m already looking forward to underestimating Yian Kut-Ku massively in the first encounter in Wilds and getting humiliated by him.
The new monsters are just beautiful
I believe everyone has particular parts of Monster Hunter where they find the design particularly beautiful and cool. So far, it looks to me like Monster Hunter: Wilds could become a favorite of mine.
The flagship monster Arkveld is particularly appealing to me, as it surrounds itself with an air of mystery. It was introduced in the release trailer:
Arkveld has a ghostly appearance with its gray-white scales and very fine fur. Particularly striking are the chain-like vines that are located on the wings of the flying wyvern. He seems to be able to extend and retract them. I assume he will be able to deal quite a bit of damage with it.
A very special highlight for me is also Uth Duna. I mean, just look at this leviathan whom I already want to name Bubble Princess. I desperately want to know what the weapons and armor crafted from this monster will look like.
What I especially like are the veiled fins on its head. They also hint that it is a monster that dwells in water.
There are already some video recordings of the battle with Uth Duna, which is regarded as the top predator in the Carmine Forest. It looks like a challenging fight to me. The monster apparently attacks lightning-fast from the water, can pounce on hunters, and bite heavily. The waves it generates will definitely throw you off balance. I’m looking forward to the fight!
The hype is real
I could now give you a never-ending lecture about each individual monster and why I find the design cool or beautiful.
However, I want to express mainly how much I like the current designs so that I’m really looking forward to Monster Hunter: Wilds. All the videos that are currently flooding my feeds on Twitter, Reddit, and Instagram are really getting me in the mood.
Also, reading the discussions is currently a lot of fun for me. The Monster Hunter community is fully back and analyzing every single snippet that can be found. A lot of things wouldn’t even stand out to me without these crafty hunters.
