Pump shotguns have a long history in Fortnite: Battle Royale, which will continue next week. Because pump shotguns will be able to send opponents back to the lobby with one shot again. However, there are limitations for shotguns in Fortnite!
For a long time, pump shotguns were considered the best weapon for close combat, but they have since lost this status. For many players, the time was legendary when you could cause fear and panic with two pump shotguns if you played it right.
However, Epic has put a stop to this approach. Deprived of their favorite tactic, shotgun players also had to endure a damage nerf. The pump could no longer eliminate opposing players with one shot.

At least for now! Because as Epic announced via Twitter, the pump shotguns will receive a buff with the next update 6.31.
Pump shotguns – one-hits possible again
This is how Epic is changing the shotguns: Essentially, Epic wants to increase the attractiveness of the pump shotguns, but without disrupting the balance, as it was during the peak of the double pump. Specifically, Epic will change the following:
- The damage of pump shotguns will be increased
- The range of pump shotguns will be slightly reduced
- ALL shotguns will deal a minimum damage of 3 shots (even if only two hit)
The blue pump shotgun will be adjusted to 10 damage per “pellet”. If all projectiles hit critically within range, you will deal 200 damage – a direct kill. How noticeable the range nerf will be can only be seen after the patch.

Minimum damage on shotguns, what does that mean? Let’s stay with the example of the rare (blue) pump shotgun. If one pellet deals 10 damage, you will always at least deal 30 damage. Even if only two projectiles find their target.
However, Epic points out that shots outside the effective range will still reduce the damage dealt. However, from next week on, it will always be assumed that you hit at least three projectiles.
What do you think of the changes? Will they change the game?
