In Destiny 2, changes are coming to the Masterwork cores and the chance for new exotic items. All information in the overview.
The players are complaining about: Since the launch of Forsaken, Guardians have provided a lot of feedback about the Year 2 expansion. So far, there has been a lot of positive feedback, but some negative aspects have also been criticized. The top topics in recent weeks have included
- the Masterwork cores, which are too rare, but many are needed for infusing
- and the exotic engrams, which are extremely rare and mostly only yield duplicates
Bungie is now addressing both topics, laying out the original plans and revealing how they intend to change them in the future.
Masterwork cores will be more frequent – and renamed
Why Masterwork cores are so rare: Infusing and making items into Masterworks are meant to be meaningful decisions. Therefore, infusing now also costs this currency.
Problems with Masterwork cores:
- Masterwork cores now have a misleading name. When they were created, they were exclusively intended for upgrading a weapon to a Masterwork (and for rerolling). In Forsaken, their significance was expanded, but the currency was not adjusted.
- There are not enough reliable sources to earn Masterwork cores. Therefore, many Guardians struggle with the decision of whether to upgrade an item with them – or whether it would be better to save the rare currency.
Plans to fix the problems:
- More reliable and abundant sources for the cores will be created
- Masterwork cores will be renamed so that their purpose becomes clearer

More new Exotics
Why Exotics are so rare: Exotic items are supposed to be meaningful and long-term objectives that players want to chase. Finding an Exotic should be rare and something special.
Problems with Exotics: Exotics are supposed to remain rare, but they need to be more “something special”. Because according to Bungie, it’s nothing special to receive your fourth Lion’s Roar when you actually want the Two-Tailed Fox.
Plan to fix the problem: They want to increase the chance of obtaining Exotics that you do not yet own.
When the changes to the Masterwork cores and the Exotics will go live is not yet known. According to Bungie, they will continue to closely monitor player feedback and provide more details about the changes before they are released.
What is your opinion on this? Are these sensible changes?
