In many MMORPGs, the endgame revolves around acquiring the strongest weapons and armor. Where do you think they should come from?
Strong gear, the “loot”, has been a staple in RPGs since day one. In countless games, we work our way through obstacles, hordes of monsters, and boss opponents to get that one strongest sword in the entire game.
A classic loot spiral in an RPG works like this: you defeat a mob to obtain a better weapon with which you can kill a stronger mob, which in turn drops a better weapon that enables you to slay the next stronger enemy.
In MMORPGs, the loot spiral and the gearing process are deeply rooted in the gameplay. They often take center stage in the endgame. It begins at leveling, when we unlock new equipment with new levels, and continues with the armor grade, which keeps rising until the top tier that only has the strongest weapons and armor.
Players in MMORPGs can often obtain this top gear in various ways:

- Random Drops
- Achievements
- Long Grind
- Quests

It is often customary in MMORPGs that players only get the best weapons and armor if they work hard for it and invest a lot of time in playing. But in which part of the MMORPG should one invest time to get the strongest items?
