How much skill should you owe your teammates in an MMORPG group? Tell us what you expect from your teammates when you go into a dungeon or raid with random people.
Here’s what it’s about: Imagine the following scenario:
You’ve signed up for a dungeon or raid and are thrown into a group with random players. And suddenly, the big dying begins, even though all players in the group are experienced and there are no newcomers. You are making very slow progress, mistakes are being made constantly, and everyone is annoyed.
Then one of the players starts complaining that everyone should learn their classes and not waste the group’s time. One should engage with the game instead of being carried by others.
To which another replies that no one has the right to tell him how to play. It’s his account, and he can do what he wants with it. He has a job, family, friends, and no time to memorize the game.
In the end, everyone is frustrated, and the group falls apart. Anyone who has played an MMORPG for an extended period will probably recognize the situation. But who is actually right here?

These are the two viewpoints: The two viewpoints opposing each other here are based on different mindsets represented in the gaming community. Especially in large MMORPGs like WoW or Final Fantasy XIV, which are played by many players, this is where opinions diverge.
One side says:
- I have the right to play as I want
- It’s just a game; you shouldn’t take it too seriously
- I have a “real life” and no time to engage deeply with the game
- It doesn’t matter whether you complete content in 10 or 50 minutes, as long as it is completed
The other side says:
- I don’t want to carry lazy people in raids and dungeons
- If someone wants to clear content, they should work and practice for it
- You also have to consider other people’s time and not be a burden
- Players who cannot deliver a certain performance in content have no place there
We want to know from you what position you represent in such situations. How much “skill” do you expect from your teammates in multiplayer? Should one be able to play how they want because their own enjoyment is the priority? Or should players engage with the game and not be a burden to others? Let us know in the comments.
