A new set photo from the upcoming Monster Hunter film showcases series-typical equipment for the first time. For some fans, this is already a reason for hope.
After several set photos of the Monster Hunter film surfaced, the mood among fans was rather bleak. Some fans were even quite upset.
This is what was shown: These photos revealed almost exclusively soldiers with military equipment known from our world. The plot revolves around the leader of a UN troop being transported through a portal into the world of Monster Hunter.
Fans were very concerned about the photos and the setting, as it did not indicate that this could have anything to do with a Monster Hunter film. However, the first official image has now been released.
The first photo actually points towards Monster Hunter
For a change, the first official image for the film actually resembles the series it is supposed to be about.
This is what can be seen in the new image: For the first time, Artemis (Jovovich) is seen in armor instead of normal soldier attire. Next to her runs a hunter (Tony Jaa), also in full armor. The hunter carries a great sword in his right hand and a bow in his left hand.
The quality is debatable. It is clearly recognizable: the equipment is directly inspired by Monster Hunter: World. The chest guard that Milla wears is a modified design of the Odogaron armor.
A touch of Monster Hunter and fans are already relieved
This is how people react to the photo: On the Facebook page of Constantin Film the photo was published. The comments are primarily positive. Especially Tony Jaa generates enthusiasm.
However, skepticism remains regarding the story, as one comment makes clear: “Tony Jaa is top-notch and a great casting choice in terms of body control. But it doesn’t change the absolutely unnecessary part about parallel worlds and soldiers jumping around in Astera.”
Many expect nothing more than popcorn cinema – and can live with that. One commentator writes: “To be honest: Even if the film might not be good in terms of story, it will probably still be worth seeing, just because of the scenes with Tony Jaa.”
Who is Tony Jaa? Jaa is an actor from Thailand who has perfected nearly all traditional martial arts.
But Tony Jaa alone is not enough to convince all fans. The most important point is, of course, the monsters, and most are still eagerly waiting for these. So far, there has been no material about the creatures. The only certainty is that they will focus on familiar creatures from the game series.
The Monster Hunter film shows a feature that never existed before: However, some are bothered by one detail. Jaa is depicted in the image with both a great sword and a bow. The bow is one of the main weapons in Monster Hunter and typically cannot be combined with other weapons.
We can likely expect more images and information about the Monster Hunter film with a $60 million budget in the near future.
