The upcoming MMORPG RISE (PC/Consoles/Mobile) from developer and publisher NXN is starting its final internal tests before the public betas are set to begin. RISE looks like a mix of The Witcher and Kingdom Come. We at MeinMMO summarize.
What is RISE? Although the game is being developed by a Korean developer, RISE is specifically aimed at a Western audience. It promises a dark medieval world with fantasy elements, but also aims to score points with realism.
The setting for the story of RISE, which is supposed to take up a large part of the game, is a fictitious country reminiscent of medieval Europe. In doing so, RISE seems like a mixture of The Witcher and Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
The name may be somewhat unfortunate, as there is a risk of confusion with the game Rise Online, but they are two completely different and independent titles.
What’s in it? A detailed list of gameplay elements is unfortunately not known at this time, but we will share what we already know about RISE:
- Focus on a realistic, dark story that is meant to evoke emotions in you
- Quests and dungeons with parties of up to 5 people
- Fortress battles with significantly more people
- RISE is also supposed to offer some real-time strategy elements
- The second major focus is PvP, as the developers want to enter eSports

What will be tested? If reports are to be believed, RISE is feature-complete. It is said to already have all the important elements in the game. According to NXN, these are the final tests before an open testing phase, which is currently only planned for Korea.
When can you play? RISE was originally supposed to be released in 2021, but we consider it unrealistic for that to happen. Much more likely is a release in 2022 or even 2023, depending on how the tests go.
Even though the game will initially be released exclusively for Korea, we can assume that this won’t last long. Since RISE is being developed with a focus on Western players with a European setting, it is reasonable to assume that RISE will soon come to us as well.
This, however, is not yet confirmed. NXN is also keeping quiet about the platforms. The title is supposed to be released for PC, consoles, and mobile, but it is still unclear whether there will be crossplay or if each platform will get its own version of RISE.
What do you think of the game? Are you excited to experience a dark world in Witcher style as an MMORPG? Let us know in the comments.
The game takes significant inspiration from The Witcher; similarly, the new MMORPG Crimson Desert with Game of Thrones does this.
