A wave is sweeping through the German Twitch. Well-known influencers like Anni The Duck and Unge are suddenly ending their careers – and it all started with a donation of €2.50 in the chat of a completely different streamer.
What is happening in the German influencer scene? The German influencer scene on YouTube and Twitch is currently in turmoil. After serious allegations, two stalwarts of the scene, Anni The Duck and Simon “Unge”, have put their careers on hold. When and if they will return is uncertain.
Over the scene, a sword of Damocles seems to be hanging, ready to strike again at any moment: anyone could be next. It all started off so harmlessly – with a donation of €2.50.
Streamer loses it after a question about Anni The Duck
What’s the story behind the €2.50? Donations are a way to support favorite content creators on Twitch. Typically, they can be accompanied by a highlighted chat message that is read and commented on by the streamers.
A donation of €2.50 was used by a Twitch viewer under the name “jamie” to ask the streamer Mowky when she would do something again with Anni The Duck. The streamers were considered good friends – just in the spring, Mowky had appeared as “best friend” in a post about Anni.
Mowky lost her temper: she said she no longer wanted to maintain the peace. She would never again give power to someone as “terrible, brutal” as Anni The Duck. Later, she spoke in more detail about troubling experiences during her friendship with the streamer.
More and more German content creators began to speak out, sharing their own experiences, foremost among them the Twitch streamer Reved, who was in a relationship with Anni until November 2022.
The atmosphere is tense: Who will be next?
What are the implications for German Twitch? For many, this donation is now the stone that set everything in motion. Some viewers believe that Unge’s ex-girlfriend Rachel might not have released her video in this form had it not been for the statements from Mowky and Reved about Anni The Duck.
However, a connection is also being made to completely different scandals:
- for instance, rumors about MontanaBlack’s relationship with the significantly younger Twitch streamer snipsska
- or the rebranding of the content group The Allerjutsten without the Twitch streamer Amar
What might have been dismissed as trivial “drama” at another time, many are now waiting for the next “downfall.” For them, 2024 is the year when influencers will reveal their true colors (via X).
Streamers hint: There could be more people affected
The atmosphere is further fueled by hints from other content creators.
The Twitch veteran Gronkh said in his reaction to Anni The Duck that he could relate to the streamers losing their temper. He had experienced something similar. One can now speculate whether he is thinking of the break with his former friends and business partners Sarazar and Sgt. Rumpel (via reddit).
After the allegations against Anni The Duck, the Twitch streamer Trymacs announced that “more bombs will drop” this year (via TikTok).
Later, the streamer confirmed that the allegations against Unge were one of those “bombs” and that he had known for a long time (via YouTube).
It is also notable that Anni The Duck and Unge did not simply tough it out and move on. Although it cannot be ruled out that both might attempt a comeback at some point when the dust has settled. But as of now, two major, well-known content creators have essentially ended their careers overnight.
All because of €2.50
The notion that a donation of €2.50 could trigger the end of entire careers has already become a kind of meme among viewers. You can see some examples from social media here:
