With Corona, children who are isolated in hospitals are particularly struggling. A developer from a charity has now prepared a surprise.
What happened? Due to Corona, many people are currently in hospitals and are not allowed to receive visitors. Children and young people are especially affected. Not everyone is allowed to take their high-end PC to the hospital or owns one.
The developer “The Coalition”, known for its Gears games, has now donated 200 “Xbox One” consoles to the organization “Gamers Outreach Foundation”.
Who is “Gamers Outreach”? The organization supports hospitals with consoles, so that children there can receive some distraction. “Gamers Outreach” writes:
For over 12 years, our mission (Quest) has been to provide a bit more fun in hospitals.

In doing so, two important tasks have been set:
- Project GO Kart: Specially equipped and prepared consoles for hospitals, so that children and young people can also play and be distracted in the hospital.
- Player 2: Supporting and managing technology. Helpers also play together with the patients so that they are not completely alone.

What does the organization do with the consoles? The organization Gamers Outreach converts consoles into portable devices, so that they can be easily moved through hospitals.
These so-called “GO Karts” (Gamers Outreach Karts) are specifically made for hospitals to provide children with some distraction even in the hospital. The carts are equipped with a game console, a monitor, controllers, and several games.
Last year, Gamers Outreach explained, that children played approximately 1.2 million gaming hours on the GO Karts and could thus distract themselves. Currently, there are around 700 GO Karts in over 200 hospitals in the USA and Canada.
Skin as support for Gamers Outreach
But the support does not stop there. In addition to the donated consoles, “The Coalition” has created a skin for Gears of War, the “Johnny COG Gear”. Purchasing the skin supports the Gamers Outreach Foundation. The skin can be purchased on the Microsoft website and costs 10 euros. All proceeds go directly to projects of the organization.
In other countries, they also want to support children in hospitals. Sometimes, coincidences help as well: Recently in France, police donated stolen game consoles to a hospital that would have otherwise been destroyed.
