The Greyjoys rule as a Great House over the Iron Islands, a rugged archipelago off the west coast of the continent. While they do not have a particularly large army, they possess one of the largest navies in Westeros, also known as the Iron Fleet.
Anyone who wants to control the waters and thus also the important trade by ship should get along well with the Greyjoys.
Rank 7: House Baratheon

The youngest of the Great Houses is House Baratheon. Since Aegon’s Conquest, they have ruled the Stormlands, south of King’s Landing.
They are known for their large army and their ancient connection to House Targaryen. Many Baratheons made it into the king’s Small Council and thus increased the power and influence of the house.
At the end of Season 1, we see Boros Baratheon rejecting Prince Lucerys’ offer and instead siding with the Greens, further endangering Rhaenyra’s position.
Rank 6: House Arryn

House Arryn is one of the Great Houses and rules as the Warden of the East over the Vale. Their seat, the Eyrie, is located on the highest mountain of the Vale and is considered impregnable – at least unless one can fly.
The Arryns are a respected and honorable house that possesses military power on land and sea.
Notably, Queen Aemma, the wife of Viserys and mother of Rhaenyra, was also an Arryn. This well illustrates the influence and prestige of the house.
Rank 5: House Lannister

The Lannisters are likely well known to any fan of Game of Thrones. They play a major role in the story. Although the Lannisters probably only reached their peak later under Tywin Lannister, they were already a powerful house during the time of House of the Dragon.
The gold mines on their lands brought them great wealth. Accordingly, they are also well militarily equipped.
Additionally, the Lannisters have always had a knack for politics. Jason Lannister, the slightly younger twin brother of Jason Lannister, is the Master of Coin and thus part of the small council.
