Rank 3: Criston Cole
Kriston Cole is a knight of humble origin known for his outstanding combat skills. Through his agility in battle, he not only made it into the Kingsguard, he also became Lord Commander. Due to his skills, he is responsible for training the princes, including Aegon and Aemond Targaryen.
At many points, we see his superiority in duels. He kills Ser Joffrey, defeats Ser Arryk Cargyll, and especially triumphs over Daemon Targaryen in a tournament fight.
- Thus, he is one of the few who have ever defeated Daemon in a duel.
One could therefore argue that Kriston should rank even higher. However, his victory was only possible because Daemon celebrated his triumph too early and was thus caught off guard. The actual duel had been won by Daemon.
Therefore, he occupies a well-deserved third place.
Rank 2: Aemond Targaryen
Prince Aemond Targaryen, also known as Aemond One-Eye, is the second son of King Viserys I and Alicent Hightower. However, his great role model is his uncle Daemon, whom he emulates in many ways.
- To become as strong a warrior, he trained for years with his teacher, Criston Cole, and became an excellent and feared fighter.
Just like Daemon, Aemond is very impulsive and tends to drastic and reckless actions, especially towards his enemies. This, combined with his technical skill, makes him such a dangerous opponent.
Of course, Aemond’s reputation is also influenced by his dragon Vhagar, the largest and oldest dragon in House of the Dragon. But even on his own, Aemond ranks almost at the top of this list.
Rank 1: Daemon Targaryen
It is no wonder that author George R.R. Martin considers Daemon his favorite Targaryen. He is a colorful figure in the history of Westeros and is often regarded as the most dangerous man of his time. He is a legendary warrior, a feared dragon rider, and was Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
A good impression of his combat skills is given to us in the war for the Stepstones. As bait, he ventures alone into enemy territory, pretends to surrender, and then fights his way through numerous enemies with his Valyrian sword Dark Sister.
He is not only a technically skilled fighter. He is primarily belligerent, impulsive, and daring. Not many would want to confront him. In our ranking, he takes first place.
