Rank 7: Arryk Cargyll
Ser Arryk is a knight of the Kingsguard and a talented fighter. Because unlike later in Game of Thrones, the quality standards of the Kingsguard were still quite high during the time of “House of the Dragon”.
- He was able to hold his own quite well against Criston Cole, whom we will encounter later in this list, even though he ultimately lost.
Arryk also has a twin brother, Ser Erryk, who is also in the Kingsguard. However, after Aegon II’s coronation, the brothers become divided. Arryk chooses to remain in King’s Landing and serve Aegon.
Rank 6: Erryk Cargyll
Unlike his brother, Ser Erryk sides with Rhaenyra and follows her to Dragonstone to serve as a knight in the Queen’s Guard.
Up to this point, it would have been hard to choose a better fighter among the brothers. But when Arryk is sent to Dragonstone to carry out an assassination attempt on Rhaenyra, the final fight between the twins occurs.
- Erryk manages to triumph. However, he cannot bear having killed his brother and takes his own life shortly thereafter.
Nevertheless, Erryk has defeated his brother in combat and ranks above him in 6th place in this ranking.
Rank 5: Harrold Westerling
After the death of Ryam Redwyne, Harrold Westerling is declared Lord Commander as the longest-serving member of the Kingsguard. Just his age says a lot about his abilities as a fighter. Because not many men in his position manage to live long.
- The saying “Beware of an old man in a profession where men usually die young” fits Harrold Westerling perfectly.
Westerling is considered the epitome of chivalry and honor, loyal to King Viserys and Rhaenyra. When he receives the order from Otto to kill Rhaenyra, he refuses and leaves the Kingsguard. No one is foolish enough to stand in his way.
Even though we never see Harrold Westerling in actual one-on-one combat, the respect for him as a great warrior and commander is evident. Thus, he ranks 5th among the best fighters in House of the Dragon.
Rank 4: Harwin Strong
True to his name, the knight Ser Harwin Strong is considered the strongest man in the Seven Kingdoms.
- Due to his strength in battle, he is also known as the Breaker of Bones.
He was effortlessly able to strike adult men aside. He also managed to take down Criston Cole in an unarmed brawl.
In terms of pure strength, Harwin Strong would certainly have ranked first. However, he lacks caution and skill. His exceedingly risky affair with Rhaenyra ultimately cost him his life.
