The abilities of Kel’Thuzad, the latest hero from Heroes of the Storm, have been revealed. We show you what the Lich has to offer!
In Blizzard’s preview trailer for Gamescom 2017, Kel’Thuzad was introduced as a new hero. He has already been added to the official Heroes of the Storm site today, giving us insight into the playstyle of the character.
Kel’Thuzad is a Lich and the top servant of Arthas, the Lich King. In Warcraft 3, he was the leader of the Cult of the Damned and was responsible for the outbreak of the plague that ultimately brought the Scourge to life. Even before his death, he was a powerful wizard, but with his rebirth as a Lich in the Sunwell, his power grew once again.
Kel’Thuzad is a late bloomer
In Heroes of the Storm, Kel’Thuzad is an Assassin and can use several abilities that he already possessed in Warcraft 3. Let’s take a look at Kel’Thuzad’s abilities.
- Kel’Thuzad’s passive ability is Master of Icy Darkness and a passive quest. Whenever Kel’Thuzad hits an enemy with Frost Nova or Chains of Kel’Thuzad, he gains a stack of Pestilence. Reward: At 15 stacks, the cooldown of all basic abilities is reduced by 2 seconds. At 30 stacks, Kel’Thuzad’s ability power is increased by 75%.
- Death and Decay creates a projectile that is launched after 0.5 seconds and explodes on the first enemy hit, dealing damage. It leaves a damage zone behind that deals additional damage over 2 seconds.
- The Frost Nova is triggered after a delay of 1 second, deals medium damage, and slows affected enemies. Targets at the center of the Nova are additionally rooted for one second.
- Chains of Kel’Thuzad is a powerful control ability. The hero throws a chain that deals damage to the first enemy hero or building hit. The chain can then be thrown at another target within 4 seconds. Both enemies are then pulled together and briefly stunned.
- The first heroic ability is Frostbite. An ice meteor is launched at an enemy hero. The target suffers minor damage, but all enemies in the vicinity take significant damage (essentially a reverse Firebolt). All hit targets are briefly rooted.
- The second heroic ability is Shadow Rift. Kel’Thuzad creates a rift somewhere with infinite range that explodes after 1.5 seconds, dealing high damage.
Kel’Thuzad will thus be a wizard who only fully unfolds his potential late, when he has completed the quest Master of Eternal Darkness. Only those who hit many enemies with their abilities early on can be a strong ally towards the end of the match.
What do you think of Kel’Thuzad as the new hero? “Cool” character or are his abilities too inappropriate?
