The next hero in Heroes of the Storm is Junkrat from Overwatch. His abilities are simply explosive!
For a few weeks now, it has been known that Junkrat is taking a step out of Overwatch and diving into the Nexus of Heroes of the Storm. In the latest “Spotlight” video, the developers show what Junkrat can do. Most of the abilities are basically taken 1:1 from Overwatch, but a few work differently.
In Heroes of the Storm, Junkrat is a ranged assassin.
Let’s take a look at Junkrat’s abilities:
- Junkrat’s passive ability is Blow Up and works exactly like in Overwatch. When Junkrat dies, he leaves behind some grenades in the immediate vicinity that explode after a short time, dealing high damage.
- Grenade Launcher fires a grenade at a target location, which then bounces a few meters further in the direction of fire. When the grenades hit obstacles, they bounce off and continue rolling. The ability has 4 charges, and the cooldown of all charges ends simultaneously.
- The Remote Mine also works like in Overwatch. Junkrat places a mine at the target location, which he can detonate by activating his passive ability (D). Enemies hit by the explosion take damage and are thrown in the corresponding cardinal direction. Junkrat is also pushed away from the mine but takes no damage. Only one mine can be active at a time.
- The Steel Trap places a trap at the target position that is ready for use after a few seconds. If an enemy steps into the trap, they take slight damage and are immobilized for a few seconds. Only one steel trap can be active at a time.
- The first heroic ability is the Kamikaze Tire. Junkrat becomes immobile, and the player gains control of the tire, which moves quickly and can jump over obstacles. Upon pressing a button, the tire detonates and deals increased damage at the center of the explosion. The tire can be destroyed by enemies beforehand.
- Junkrat’s second heroic ability is the Ride the Rocket. Junkrat activates a huge rocket over several seconds, which he then rides. While in the air, he can redefine his impact area until time runs out. Then Junkrat lands at the target, dealing damage and activating his passive ability Blow Up. Shortly after, Junkrat respawns at the base (as if he had died) and can quickly return to the battlefield with a temporary rocket mount.
