The “Officer D.Va” skin leads to numerous matches with absent players in HotS. The outcry from fans is loud.
Well, in hindsight, Blizzard’s concept with the “Nexus Challenge 2.0” doesn’t seem very well thought out. Since yesterday, the players of Heroes of the Storm have been loudly complaining in the official forums and on Reddit that their matches are repeatedly sabotaged by players who are essentially not participating in the match properly.
The reason for this is the new “Officer D.Va” skin that all Overwatch players want. However, they need to complete a total of 10 matches in Heroes of the Storm, 5 of them against human opponents.
While most Overwatch fans are really excited about the new skin, they are less so about Heroes of the Storm. The result: Almost every match has a player afk who usually doesn’t hide the fact that he is “only here for the skins and doesn’t want to properly play this crappy game.” One feels “forced by Blizzard to play this shitty game to get a skin.”
The demand from the players is relatively clear: Anyone who behaves like a complete idiot in Heroes of the Storm by being afk or repeatedly running into the enemy’s blade should have D.Va’s skin taken away from them. Better yet: Anyone who misbehaves so much that they receive an account penalty in HotS should also be excluded from Overwatch for a while.
So far, Blizzard has not commented on this issue. But even there, the developers are likely dissatisfied that some Overwatch players are ruining the experience for the many newcomers who are currently exploring Heroes of the Storm.
Jaina is the Top AFK Hero
There’s a little tip at the end: If you want to avoid these AFK players, it helps to choose Jaina as your hero. Most saboteurs also choose Jaina because she is the free hero after the tutorial. Since there can only be one Jaina per team, this eliminates a risk factor.
