The developers of Heroes of the Storm still have a long list ahead: More than 200 characters are available to choose from.
No end in sight
Currently, Blizzard tries to release a new hero in Heroes of the Storm approximately every 3 weeks. However, since this is not working poorly, they are currently still looking for additions to the team. An interview by Red Bull with Senior Game Designer Matthew Cooper revealed that ideas for new heroes will not run out anytime soon: Over 200 characters are still on the list that Blizzard could integrate into HotS sooner or later. “We will hardly work through this list anytime soon”, Cooper stated.
Even though the frequency of new releases is supposed to increase, they want to stay true to the Blizzard line by questioning the rules: “We quite like to break the rules”, he says, referring to unusual heroes like Abathur or the Lost Vikings.
Balancing is the biggest hurdle
Especially in balancing, the developer still sees some problems. Here, the differences between casual players (“Casuals” – of course, none of you reading this!) and professionals are an issue. A recent example is Zeratul, who is nearly perfectly balanced for the masses, but significantly too strong at eSports level.
The battlegrounds have also become a small concern. Although Heroes of the Storm is still quite new, there is already a high number of different scenarios, and here too, the playstyles differ greatly between beginners and professionals. They might want to introduce rotations in the future to temporarily exclude certain battlegrounds and see how this impacts the meta of HotS.
