You want to play Heroes of the Storm just for the Overwatch rewards? Then we have the right beginner tips for you with good hero combinations.
Heroes of the Storm has taken the leap into version 2.0 and offers a lot of goodies in the form of skins, free heroes, and cross-promotions to the player base.
Many new players are attracted by the offers – also a few Overwatch veterans who want to unlock the “Oni Genji” skin and the “Officer D.Va” skin in Overwatch. To do this, one must complete the weekly quests together with at least one friend. However, the successful entry into Heroes of the Storm is not that easy. Therefore, here are some beginner tips for you.
Beginner Tips for HotS
- The first week’s quest can also be completed in the “Versus AI” mode. Use these 5 games to get used to Heroes of the Storm and get a feel for the heroes and objectives before you venture into battle against other players.
- You are a team and function only as a team. You share the same character level with all the other 4 players in a match and earn experience points for each other. Ego tours – almost like in Overwatch – rarely succeed.
- Map objectives and mercenary camps are more important in Heroes of the Storm than in MOBAs like LoL or Dota. There is rarely a long “laning phase” as is the case in other MOBAs.
- Don’t always choose the same talents and experiment a little! It is pointless to choose “Pyroblast” as a heroic ability with Kael’thas when the opponent has a Medivh on their team who can briefly make his allies invulnerable. Always rethink your talent choices based on which enemies you are facing.
Good Hero Combinations for Beginners
At the beginning, one is overwhelmed by the selection of heroes. What should you play? Which heroes complement each other well? Here are some combinations that will equip you well for the start.
Important: Anyone logging in today will receive a package with 20 different heroes for free!
Nova and Valeera: The two assassins both have stealth and can move almost unheard across the battlefield. This makes “ganks” particularly easy. Valeera is capable of briefly stunning the enemy, allowing Nova to hit her sniper shot accurately. Most non-tanks bite the dust after a coordinated attack from the two stealthy characters.
“If you still have long ears now, you are a true Silvermoon ninja.”
Kael’thas and Malfurion: Kael’thas is not only the Sun King but also a true king in the handling of area spells – particularly effective when enemies are grouped together, allowing “Living Bomb” to jump. Together with the supporter Malfurion, this is particularly easy as he can briefly root enemies to the ground. Additionally, Malfurion can supply Kael’thas with mana, which otherwise runs out quickly for the prince. An unequal but very effective elf duo.
Lt. Morales and Chen: Another unequal pair that can be very effective because it’s basically hard to kill. Lt. Morales’ healing is unparalleled, and Chen can grant himself a shield with his brew, while Morales’s healing continues to tick and fills him up. This combo may lack a bit of punch, but opponents will struggle against you. As long as Chen keeps an eye on his healer, you should not have major problems.
Abathur + Anything: Abathur generally pairs well with any hero more or less solidly. Although Abathur is rated as “very hard”, he can bring fun and success in the early matches. Unlike all other heroes, Abathur does not stand at the front but (mostly) in the safety of fortress walls. From there, he can jump on the heads of all allies and support them in battle with shields and extra damage – or simply copy a hero if needed.
This should ensure your entry into Heroes of the Storm. Have fun in the Nexus!
We explain in this article which missions you need to complete for the skins and other rewards.
