Many were looking forward to the Minecraft MMORPG Hegemony, but upon launch, disillusionment followed. Due to massive technical issues, the servers were shut down immediately.
What is Hegemony? Hegemony is an open-world MMORPG that uses the blocky graphic style of Minecraft and is even based on Minecraft.
You explore a vast world together with many players, completing quests and leveling up your character. You equip your hero with weapons, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. It is even possible to buy your own buildings or erect a structure on your personal piece of land. Hegemony aims to provide a typical MMORPG experience, just in Minecraft visuals.
Big Problems After Launch
When did the game launch? The launch took place on Saturday evening, March 8. Tens of thousands of players wanted to participate right away.
What happened after the launch? Shortly after the servers opened, problems arose:
- There were constant crashes
- Quests were not functioning correctly
- The performance was poor
- There were issues with skill progression
Essentially, Hegemony was nearly unplayable.
How did the developers react? For almost two days, the team tried to get the issues under control. However, one issue turned out to be too massive. So-called “objectives” in the game, which save how far a quest has progressed, caused the database to crash. This was due to the extremely high number of players wanting to experience Hegemony.
This led to quests being uncompletable. Furthermore, it became impossible to accept those quests again, rendering the missions in the game essentially useless.
Hard Work Ahead
What does the team plan to do now? Since this is a larger issue, the developers of the Minecraft MMORPG Hegemony have decided to temporarily shut down the servers.
Now they will work on a fix before Hegemony launches again. The team apologizes for the inconvenience and is aware that this decision disappoints the fans.
When will the game go online again? Since the entire quest-state system needs to be redeveloped, the developers need about two weeks before Hegemony goes online again. Currently, it is planned that the MMORPG’s doors will reopen on March 28.
There might be tests on the weekends. The team will let players know the test times in advance.
The team is also working on translations of Hegemony. Additionally, the developers are pleased that their Minecraft MMORPG, despite the issues in the short time it could be played, was received so well.
The “real” Minecraft is also set to be expanded soon with new features. These include:
