After the “failed” patch from January 29, Fallout 76 will soon receive a hotfix. The developers have already discussed what went wrong and what will be fixed with the quick solution.
Bethesda has published a post on reddit and the official forum addressing the issues of the latest patch 5 for Fallout 76 from January 29. Since some of the bugs that have (re)entered the game through the patch can critically affect players, the hotfix is expected to come “as soon as possible”. It is planned for the end of the week or early next week. Currently, the hotfix is being developed and tested internally.
What does the Fallout 76 hotfix bring? The list of improvements that the hotfix will bring is quite short. It primarily fixes things that were not problems before patch 5:
- The weight of hairpins has been reduced back to 0.001.
- Large amounts of junk can be used for crafting and repairing.
- (Known) blueprints/recipes are no longer displayed across characters.
In particular, the hairpins have caused discontent in the community. They are a relatively small problem themselves, but they stand as a symbol of everything that is going wrong from the community’s perspective. Players are particularly annoyed that the technical state hardly improves, lags and disconnects still persist, and item duping is functional again – even though Bethesda is at least taking action against duping.
This is how the community reacts to the patch and the hotfix
Players are giving up: Since the patch, the community seems to be increasingly dissatisfied with Fallout 76 and Bethesda. On reddit, posts are piling up about even the most enthusiastic players losing hope.
One of the most popular topics on reddit is currently a post by CrawlingOutTheFallout titled: “I am regretfully giving up on Fallout 76.” The post has already received nearly 6000 upvotes with an approval rating of 86%. (As of January 31 at 3:30 PM)
The user writes that he had a lot of fun with Fallout, but after the recently accumulated events, he can no longer defend Bethesda. The consequences of poor decisions have been too severe and have left a bad feeling.
The reactions of other users in this topic are similar. While they wish other players continued fun, they seem likely to bid farewell to the game.
There is hope: On the other hand, some members of the community are still trying to help Bethesda in development. Through critical suggestions, observations, and feedback, fans are trying to help objectively – even under Bethesda’s own post.
Some other topics that have also received a lot of support discuss possible decisions that could still save Fallout. After missteps like the canvas bag, a rethink is necessary.
The user CoolZero_73 describes this in his post. He applauds the developers for their tireless work, but emphasizes that game design, quality assurance, and management need to be reconsidered.
What do you think? Can Fallout 76 recover or has the last trust also been squandered?
At least before the last patch, there were still big plans for Fallout 76. Some players even wanted to create entire cities:
