Fans of Apex Legends wish for the appearance of a famous robot from Hollywood in the game. That wish might even come true, as both the CEO of Respawn and the director of the film are interested.
It’s about the 2015 movie “Chappie,” in which police robots ensure order in the South African city of Johannesburg and fight high crime rates.
One of these robots is decommissioned and saved from the junk press by an inventor, gains its own consciousness, and becomes “Chappie.” According to many fans, the dystopian sci-fi film fits very well into the setting of Apex Legends.
Chappie in Apex Legends? The bosses say: Yes
Where does the wish come from? The film “Chappie” was generally very popular. The character Chappie himself is apparently also popular in the Apex Legends community.
Shortly after the launch of Apex Legends, some users demanded on reddit Chappie as a skin for Pathfinder. Pathfinder is one of the legends of Apex Legends, a cheerful robot that works with grappling hooks and ziplines to support his team.
Chappie and Pathfinder share so many popular traits that part of the community even just calls him Chappie in the game.
There is apparently a strong desire to play as Chappie in Apex Legends in some way or at least to implement him.

How the bosses and the community react: The discussion has also continued on Twitter. Some users are also discussing Chappie and Apex Legends here. Eventually, even the film’s director, Neill Blomkamp, got involved.
His simple response to the demand:
Many people ask me that. I’m in.
The response has already triggered excitement among many players, which only intensified when the CEO of Respawn, the studio behind Apex Legends, also responded:
I’m in too.
In the community, this caused reactions such as: “Oh boy… my wallet just started crying” or “Damn… I guess I have to open my wallet now…”
Those are still the issues: Blomkamp himself has previously worked for EA on a live-action trailer for the new MMO shooter Anthem. So, the step towards collaboration with Respawn seems only a small one.
However, the rights to Chappie are not only with Blomkamp. As the US site Polygon reports, three different companies were involved in the production of the film. It is therefore difficult to say who holds which rights and who would receive which shares.

What do you think of the idea? Do you want to see Chappie as a character or as a skin?
A new character has already been leaked, it seems, but it is not Chappie:
