How did Keanu Reeves impress the creators? In the episode focused on Armored Core, Keanu Reeves plays an animated mech pilot. Two weeks before the filming of the episode, the actor had bad news for the creators of the series:
Dave, Tim, I have bad news. I broke my kneecap.
Creator Tim Miller and Executive Producer Dave Wilson were already preparing for Reeves to drop out of filming after this announcement. But the actor even responded that he had learned all the lines and could take off the brace for 5 minutes at a time to shoot.
Miller and Wilson were so glad about that that they accommodated Reeves. They suggested that Reeves keep the brace on and that his virtual version would simply be depicted limping with a brace.

How did the shoot go? After 2 hours, Reeves’ knee already hurt. Wilson recalls that the knee was the size of Tim Miller’s head. They offered the actor to take a break and come back tomorrow.
But to their surprise, Reeves completed the filming in just one day. He spent a total of 13 hours on set with the brace. In the meantime, he reportedly only left the filming location briefly to smoke a cigarette.
