The wait is over: Frost Giant Studios announces the beta for the real-time strategy game Stormgate. With the new “Mega-Update”, a co-op mode will expand the game.
What kind of game is Stormgate? Stormgate is a Free2Play real-time strategy game from Frost Giant Studios. True to the genre, you lead one of several factions into battle against other players or in co-op against the AI.
In a mix of base-building and battlefield combat, you try to storm and destroy the enemy base. At the same time, you must improve your base and gather new resources to gain the upper hand in the competition. Here is the link to sign up for the Stormgate beta.
Why is there so much hope for Stormgate? The hope for Stormgate is partly due to the developer team behind the RTS. At Frost Giant Studios, a diverse mix of ex-developers from StarCraft, Warcraft, Wasteland 3, and managers from e-sports work together. The title is a ray of hope for genre fans, as no major RTS title has convinced fans for a long time. Recently, there was a new DLC for one of the best strategy games of all time.
What does the new update bring? The new “Mega-Update” of Stormgate finally reveals the co-op mode that fans have been waiting for, where you can play with two teammates against the computer. Previously, only PvP battles were possible. Here is a list of all the new content in the beta:
- In co-op mode, you can play a hero. The developers introduced the first hero for the beta. “Blockade” is a sci-fi paladin who can be played as a damage dealer, tank, or healer.
- The first map of co-op mode is called “Wreck Havoc” and our task is to stop enemy convoys before they reach the base.
- In the beta, there will also be a new leaderboard, as well as a competitive ranking system.
- A replay function is finally available in Stormgate, showcasing the e-sports aspects of the game.
- A new faction with new units will also be playable for the first time in the beta.
- The Infernal faction lets you rule over hellish creatures.
Here you can get an impression of the gameplay from the pre-alpha.
Stormgate is fully funded, yet the developers are launching a Kickstarter campaign
Why is there now a Kickstarter campaign? The developers of Stormgate themselves state they are already fully funded. The great interest in the game and features that were initially not planned led the developers to decide on a Kickstarter campaign. To make these much-desired features a reality, more money is needed.
How can you play the beta? Supporters of the Kickstarter campaign gain access to the closed beta of the game. However, according to the developers at Frost Giant Studios, there will also be other, free, ways to play the beta. Already in advance, one could sign up for the beta of Stormgate on the official website. From all registrations, some have now been chosen who have gained access to the game.
Stormgate will present the trailer for the beta at the Game Awards. We are curious how the game has changed compared to the alpha.
