On September 28 at 8:00 AM our time, New World celebrated its release. However, the MMO has so far only launched with European servers. Nevertheless, it has already broken the player record from the beta and directly entered the top 3 in player numbers on Steam.
Update 4:00 PM: Currently, over 540,000 players are online simultaneously. The peak is broken on average every 10 minutes. At 5:00 PM, more servers will open on the West Coast of America.
Update 2:20 PM: New World currently has over 450,000 concurrent players. Thus, the MMO is in 2nd place, right behind CS:GO with 575,000 players.
How many players does New World have? According to the SteamDB website, at 10:30 AM our time, there were 233,821 players online simultaneously – a strong upward trend. The numbers update with about an hour’s delay.
Thus, the record from the beta of just over 200,000 concurrent players has been broken.
Since 8:00 AM, New World can be played on the Steam platform, and player numbers can be tracked precisely via the API.

New player count record on Steam – half the world is still missing
Why is the number already impressive? Currently, there are only European servers for New World. Players from America can join with their own worlds from 2:00 PM (East Coast) and 5:00 PM (West Coast). Specific servers for Australia will also start later in the night.
Since it is still early morning in Europe and most players in America are currently sleeping, the rush will likely be significantly greater in our evening hours.
It’s quite possible that New World will also surpass the other top games on Steam.
New World enters directly at 3rd place in the charts
Where does New World stand on Steam? With currently around 230,000 players, New World ranks 3rd in the Steam charts.
Only Dota 2 (about 320,000 players) and CS:GO (430,000 players) are ahead of the new MMO from Amazon.
Both games could still be surpassed during the day.
New World is immediately number 1 on Twitch
How is it going for New World on Twitch? New World is also doing well on Twitch. Currently, the game is the largest on the streaming platform with 391,000 viewers.
Following are the categories “Just Chatting” with 138,000 viewers and Apex Legends with 135,000 viewers.
However, many international and big streamers are still not live on Twitch. Asmongold, who spent a lot of time in New World during the beta, is waiting for the release in America. The current largest streamer is Fextralife with 45,000 viewers.
