For the announcement of the Crew Pack of February 2021, Fortnite told an exciting story about a mysterious fox clan, but what happens next?
What kind of story is this? On January 24, a few posts from Fortnite appeared on Twitter. However, these were not “real” reports about the game, but someone was trying to make contact with a familiar character from Fortnite.
The story began when the mysterious character made contact with Drift from Season 5 – Chapter 1. The person mentioned a fox clan and that they were in great danger. As it turned out, the character was “Vi”, the crew skin of February.
Vi explained that the fox clan is being pursued by an ancient evil power and that she is the only one who managed to escape. Since Drift had received a fox mask back then, he is also a target and in danger. She asks Drift for help and that they join forces.
So the story ended: To prevent the evil power from becoming suspicious, Vi ended the conversation and deleted all traces of this discussion that had taken place with Drift. Consequently, all posts from Fortnite on Twitter were also deleted. The story ended there, leaving players puzzled. Here you can follow the conversation again:
Was this just an advertisement for the skin?
This is what happened after the story: A few days later, the new crew pack was announced, and it quickly became clear: Vi was just the skin from the package. But what about the story? What happens next with the fox clan?
I have been asking myself these questions since the posts from Fortnite on Twitter. What I have always particularly liked about Fortnite is the story that is told in the background. I closely followed the story from Chapter 1 and it was always one of my highlights.
If I’m honest, I have missed the storytelling since the start of Chapter 2. There are somehow no real connections that can be linked from season to season. When this story with the fox clan emerged, I was thrilled and full of hope for more.
This is what I still hope for: When the story was no longer continued, I was left with a bitter aftertaste. I wondered: Was this all just hype to announce the skin? I hope not, because in my opinion, there is still a lot of potential!
A return of Drift, new characters from the fox clan, and a reunion with the old place Lucky Landing are just a few of the things I can imagine. I want to know who else is part of the clan and who is behind the old evil power. So please, Fortnite, continue the story!
A theory about Season 6 also keeps me hoping for a continuation of the story. Players believe that the respective seasons from Chapter 1 are linked to those from Chapter 2. They would repeat, but with a different twist. Since we are now in Season 5 – Chapter 2 and Drift had appeared in the same season from Chapter 1, there could still be a reunion.
