Fortnite introduced a famous dance as an emote in the item shop, but only 8 years after the hype is over. We’ll show you which dance is meant.
What kind of emote is this? On Friday, January 29 at 1:00 AM, the item shop was updated and now features the new emote “Gangnam Style” for 500 V-Bucks.
Fortnite teased the arrival of the emote on Twitter shortly before with a trailer showing a few skins dancing on a roof to “Gangnam Style”:
So if you want to have a little dance, you can now get the emote in the item shop. The original music from Gangnam Style is also available, and you can move around while dancing.
Emote comes 8 years too late
Where does this dance actually come from? Gangnam Style (the music and the dance) was released in 2012 by South Korean musician Psy. The music video, which was posted by the musician himself on YouTube, has reached 3.9 billion views.
Shortly after, almost everyone knew the famous Gangnam Style after it went viral in 2012. The hype was quite big back then, but Fortnite is bringing it back now 8 years later.
Now the question arises: Is Fortnite already too late, or will this spark hype for this dance among the players again? After all, there are certainly players who have never heard of Gangnam Style and are only discovering it now through Fortnite.
What do the players say about the return of Gangnam Style? Under the post on Twitter announcing the emote in the item shop, there are varying opinions on this. Some seem to be excited about it, while others think it will ruin the dance. They say:
- “Oh no people, Gangnam Style is no longer funny.”
- “Ohh no they [Epic] are making all cool dances embarrassing. Now everyone at my school will dance the Gangnam Style.”
- “Am I back in 2012?”
- “Omg my favorite! Thanks, I will buy it.”
Some seem to believe that dances are ruined when they appear in Fortnite. However, there are certainly players who are happy to now be able to dance the Gangnam Style in Fortnite too.
This is not the first time players have complained because they envisioned the arrival of an item differently. Fortnite brought the Terminator skin, but not the one the players wanted. Some believed that Fortnite didn’t have enough money to bring the “right” Terminator.
