The MMORPG Lord of the Rings Online can continue. The license is secured even after 2017.
Fans of Lord of the Rings Online had a fear: Their favorite MMORPG could lose the license to Lord of the Rings. The Free2Play MMO would then be discontinued. In 2017, the license expires, and then Lord of the Rings Online would be narratively at Mount Doom and thus come to an end.
These concerns are now definitively off the table. The studio shares through the community manager in the forum: The license has been renewed. There is no difference from other IPs and licenses; these are components of the business that happen behind the scenes. Therefore, there will be no details provided.

Just this much: The license will continue to be no problem as long as there is LOTRO. They plan to support Lord of the Rings Online for years to come and count on the support of the players.
Mein-MMO says: One has to chuckle a bit. Because fans have long and loudly been calling for such an answer – but there has been none for years. It seems that now, with the MMO team operating independently as Standing Stone Studio, some blockades are being resolved.
