In the fantasy MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online, signs indicate a change: In 2015, the old worlds will close, and new and larger ones will emerge.
The Lord of the Rings Online wants to change quite a lot in Middle-earth in 2015, and even on our Earth, with the server farms and monetization options, signs indicate a change – as was announced at the beginning of 2015.
- By the end of June, they plan to switch to a new shop model. The new one should be “cleaner”, with many “one-click is enough” offers and more payment options.
- By the end of September, Turbine will move to new data centers. The European servers will go to Amsterdam. Turbine promises “upgraded hardware.”
- Probably the biggest cut for many players will come with this. They will reveal details later, but it looks like they will open “new, larger servers” that players can then transfer to. The old worlds will no longer be accessible after a grace period. The transfer works directly through the launcher, not through the website. Clans can be transferred, taking over the achievements of the old guilds. After the new worlds are there, they will continue to run the “old worlds” for another 3 months. After the 3 months, characters can still be transferred, but players can no longer continue playing on the “old world”.
