Pixelmage Games sends its 2D retro RPG Hero’s Song into the second round of funding, this time on Indiegogo.
John Smedley, the former head of Sony Online Entertainment (SOE), once became self-employed with his new company Pixelmage Games and planned to return to the stage of game designers with a 2D hardcore RPG called Hero’s Song.
His first attempt to fund the game via Kickstarter failed due to the poorly thought-out campaign and the relatively high funding goal of $800,000. However, even then, Smedley remained fighting and stated that they would continue to develop the game.
Oops… I Did It Again!
Nearly a week ago, the second funding attempt for Hero’s Song began. This time, however, not via Kickstarter, but through the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, where the game reached about $60,000 of the required $200,000 within a week.
The biggest difference from the earlier Kickstarter campaign is, besides the significantly lower funding goal, the fact that Pixelmage Games is this time relying on a so-called “Flexible Funding Goal”. This means that Pixelmage Games will receive money this time even if the goal is not met in time again.
Retro, but not old-fashioned
If you are charmed by the retro appeal of the game or can at least overlook the slightly old-fashioned 2D look of the game, there are some surprises waiting for you, as Hero’s Song is an action-oriented game with many good ideas and features:
- Create & Explore: Create a character from 10+ races and 22+ classes and immerse yourself in a world filled with countless epic quests and powerful gods.
- Rise to Power: Kill, loot, survive, and become a god of your world. But only as long as you don’t die from permadeath.
- Crafting & Building: Enjoy a research-based crafting system and fulfill your architectural dreams in the game’s housing.
- Solo & Multiplayer: Play alone, or together with friends, or together with many other players.
- Your Server, Your Rules: Host your own world, set the rules for your server, invite friends or open your world to thousands of players.
