John Smedley, former CEO of SOE and Daybreak, is currently working on the indie MMO Hero’s Song – and urgently needs money.
The development of an MMORPG costs a lot of money. Especially small indie studios struggle to secure the necessary funding and are constantly looking for investors. John Smedley is currently in a similar situation. The MMORPG Hero’s Song entered early access in early November and has been playable via Steam since then. However, it has since gone quiet about the online game.
Startups spend a large part of their time securing more funding
John Smedley, CEO of the development studio Pixelmage, has now spoken out. He apologizes that there hasn’t been an update for so long. However, for such a small studio working on such an ambitious project, one must always take the time to look for new funding sources. They are currently dealing with some of these issues, but cannot discuss them. Smedley asks for understanding and patience. There is simply not much to say at the moment. More information will follow.
Create your own worlds
Hero’s Song is a 2D MMORPG that can also be played solo. You either create your own world from the start based on the choices you make, or you play in the worlds of other players. The graphics resemble a mix of Japanese RPGs and Ultima Online. Fighting enemies – either alone or in a group – is the focus. Essentially, you create your own story in the world, with very few quests available.
