In Heroes of the Storm Tracer is the first Overwatch heroine and Cortyn’s most hated character. Read in this guide how to play the teleporting nuisance optimally!
Anyone who knows Tracer from Blizzard’s team shooter Overwatch knows what the lively young Brit can do. Teleporting, sneaking up on enemies, and driving them crazy with her clear bell-like laughter! And exactly those skills she also has in Heroes of the Storm!
Tracer in bullet points:
| Pro | Contra |
| No energy management needed | Auto-attacks need to be reloaded regularly |
| Ranged attacker | Extremely quick to die |
| Ultimate ability available from the start | Requires good reflexes and awareness |
| Extremely mobile | Pulse Bomb hard to aim |
| Very good DPS | Low burst potential |
Heroes of the Storm – Tracer – Zoom, Bang, Teleport
Tracer is a very unusual heroine who differs in many ways from the typical hero in HotS. On the one hand, she has her ultimate ability “Pulse Bomb” available right from the start, and on the other hand, she has to reload her two super-strong pulse pistols regularly.
With the two guns, Tracer deals massive damage and can move freely while shooting. And mobility is a must, because Tracer can teleport a short distance up to three times using “Warp” (the individual charges regenerate slowly). For example, to evade attacks or to flee.
But it’s much better to use Warp to get quickly to the enemy, land a “melee attack” on them, and then teleport away again. The skill “melee attack” deals a hell of a lot of damage and further charges the ultimate ability.

The “Pulse Bomb” is available from the start, but only when you regularly deal damage with melee attacks and auto-attacks will it charge slowly and be usable. So you have to play Tracer offensively if you want to use the skill often. But it’s worth it. The bomb has a short range but sticks to the targeted enemy and deals massive damage! Additionally, it also wounds all enemies in the vicinity.
Last but not least, Tracer has her signature skill from Overwatch: Time Loop. This allows Tracer to teleport back to where she was exactly 3 seconds ago, with no impairment and a full magazine. Optimal if you want to escape, but beware! The cooldown is high, and if you don’t know exactly where you were three seconds ago, you might teleport right into a horde of enemies.
HotS Talent Build for Tracer

For Tracer, it’s all about dancing around the enemy, dodging their attacks with Warp, and hitting them as often as possible with the melee attack. All this, of course, while mercilessly bombarding the poor enemies with your standard attacks. And if a nasty enemy gets too close, you use Time Loop to escape while laughing at the enemies. The following talents make this tactic even more gruesome and annoying:
- Level 1 – Slipstream: A must-have talent for Tracer, as it increases the rewind time of Time Loop to 4 seconds and reduces the cooldown. This allows you to escape even more effectively and, most importantly, more often.
- Level 4 – Is that a medkit?!: Tracer receives 100 percent more health points from health orbs and healing wells. Since you as Tracer often escape by a hair’s breadth, you can quickly return to the fight.
- Level 7 – Space-Time Curvature: We can’t say it often enough: Tracer must always have an escape plan. With this talent, you get two charges of Warp for each use of Time Loop. Useful and incredibly annoying for the enemy!
- Level 10 – Bomb Toss: A total no-brainer! Because this increases the really short range of the Pulse Bomb significantly. This way you hit better. Additionally, the bomb now charges 50 percent faster with hero auto-attacks. This allows you to use the deadly bomb much more often and deal a lot of damage.
- Level 13 – First Aid Ammo: This skill gives you 20 percent life steal against heroes and can determine the difference between victory and defeat. Alternatively, “Ricochet” could also be an option, as it gives you a 50 percent chance to hit additional targets with your auto-attacks.
- Level 16 – Dexterity: Reloading is annoying! But with this talent, it goes twice as fast, giving you a DPS bonus of 20 percent! How cool is that?! Especially with the previous talent “First Aid Ammo” this ability synergizes very well, and you will recharge the bomb even faster.
- Level 20 – Time Heals All Wounds: Anyone who knows Overwatch and has been paying attention will surely notice that Tracer in HotS does not regain her lost health points using Time Loop. With this talent, however, that works, and Tracer regains all health points lost in the last four (due to Slipstream) seconds. So you don’t even have to run to the healing well to heal yourself.
