Heroes of the Storm brings together all Blizzard universes, including Overwatch. The heroes from Blizzard’s hero shooter are particularly a huge challenge for the developers.
In Heroes of the Storm, they are among the absolute fan favorites and have their place on every team: We are talking about Overwatch heroes!
Their triumph in Blizzard’s MOBA began once with the fast-paced Tracer, who was initially so strong that she had to be nerfed and even brought Cortyn to despair. Meanwhile, the powerful Zarya and supporter Lúcio are also in the game and are popular heroes.
Overwatch Heroes in HotS – Harder than expected
Lúcio, Tracer, and Zarya should certainly not be the only Overwatch characters in Heroes of the Storm. However, the transfer from the shooter to the MOBA often proves to be more difficult than expected. A
On the website PCGamesN, HotS chief Claudio Gentilini stated: “Not every Overwatch hero can be easily transferred to Heroes [of the Storm]…” For example, Pharah is a real challenge, as her vertical gameplay is hardly realizable in a MOBA where there are no structures for Pharah to land on.
Another problem lies with fan favorite Reinhardt, one of the most played tanks in Overwatch. There, he projects a huge shield that blocks a tremendous amount of damage, allowing all other heroes to advance behind it. According to Gentilini, this shield is very difficult to balance, as one must carefully determine what it blocks and how much.
Heroes of the Storm – Lúcio was hard, but worked
Such challenges do not necessarily mean they cannot be overcome. This happened with the latest Overwatch hero Lúcio. Ironically, his “Wall-Ride” ability was a tough nut for the developers of Heroes of the Storm, initially intended only as a speed boost.
Developer Nathan LaMusga found this less cool, so the new concept was born, allowing Lúcio to skate past other heroes when moving next to an obstacle. The concept was very well received and players love it, according to Gentilini.
Therefore, despite the tough challenges, they want to continue working on Overwatch heroes for Heroes of the Storm. Lúcio, Zarya, and Tracer will likely not have to feel lonely for long.
