Finally, a new heroine in Heroes of the Storm. The problem: No one knows her and it seems like no one really wanted her either.
In the last weeks, it has been relatively quiet around Heroes of the Storm, except for a summer event. However, the MOBA from Blizzard is back now and presents a new heroine. But she is only causing confusion in the community and players are asking: Who the hell is Qhira?
Qhira comes from the Nexus: The new heroine originates from the Nexus, which is the actual world in which Heroes of the Storm takes place. Here, different realms of the Nexus are at war with each other. The individual realms feed off the crystals, which leads many to make mistakes. This likely also happened in Qhira’s realm, which she has seen sink into chaos.
Spotlight video feels soulless: As usual, the new heroine is introduced in a spotlight video. However, instead of being accompanied by the voice of a developer explaining the abilities and special aspects, we only hear the voice lines of Qhira that she will also deliver in the game. They don’t even necessarily match the shown footage, but feel “thoughtlessly strung together”. This is also causing the English video to have almost as many “thumbs down” as positive feedback.
Fans are extremely critical, don’t want Qhira: In the comments of the English introduction video, Qhira is not well received. Many viewers criticize that no one asked for such a heroine. Blizzard has hundreds of cooler characters in their own universes like Warcraft, StarCraft, or Diablo, so they should focus on those. Qhira seems too generic for many, and the somewhat lackluster highlight video without developer commentary doesn’t help.
However, there are also some voices that are happy about a new, original hero and hope that Qhira will get a bit more story to fit into the narrative of the Nexus. Orphea was a better example, she even got her own comic.
Maybe the mood will change when more players have been able to actually play Qhira. So far, however, she doesn’t seem to be having a good start.
