About a month ago, Blizzard’s MOBA Heroes of the Storm officially released. To give newcomers a little kickstart, we’ve put together this guide for you. It covers some basic tips for HotS and also shows you how you can achieve early success with 4 easy-to-play heroes.
The Ingame Tutorial of Heroes of the Storm
For the further text, I assume that you have played the ingame tutorial. It addresses the fundamental questions regarding controls and game objectives, explains the behavior of minions, and provides information about the layout of the map. Additionally, playing the tutorial grants quite a bit of gold, so even MOBA veterans should click through the introductory cards!
A Few Basic Information About the Guide
A Great Emphasis Was Placed on Simplicity
Please note that I do not claim all-encompassing accuracy here. There are certainly many other ways to play the heroes presented in Heroes of the Storm – however, I consider the presented variants to be particularly beginner-friendly.
For this reason, I also placed great emphasis on the talent selection of the heroes, choosing only talents that grant a passive bonus or an improvement to existing abilities. Almost every character can still choose some “active” abilities, but since this requires even more attention, I didn’t want to overwhelm newcomers.
Not All Characters Are Cheap
I will present a character for each class, but not all of them are cheap and therefore easy to obtain.
One costs 10,000 gold coins, while another only costs 2,000. I selected the characters based solely on whether they are easy to learn and, above all, whether they provide subjective enjoyment. At the same time, I made sure to recommend heroes to you who offer something left to learn and improve.
For this reason, I did not take Raynor for the assassins. Although he is cheap and super easy to learn, he offers little improvement potential and is, in my view, not much fun in Heroes of the Storm. At the very beginning of your career, you will inevitably have to rely on the heroes that are in the current free rotation, and they change weekly. Alternatively, heroes can, of course, be purchased with real money if one wants to play them immediately.
