Rank 6: Morathi
The Dark Elf is the mother (according to some rumors, also lover) of the Witch King Malekith. Together, the two rule over the Dark Elves, who were banished from the other Elves of the island continent of Ulthuan and are known for their extreme cruelty.
In the trailer for the Dark Elves from Total War: Warhammer 2, you can see Morathi alongside Malekith:
Morathi is herself a high sorceress, and a powerful one at that. She was the one who saved Malekith after he nearly died in the flames ritual of Asuryan. Passing this test determines whether someone can become Phoenix King – the highest king of the Elves. Without Morathi, this trial would have been deadly for Malekith.
In secret, she also founded a cult for the Chaos God Slaanesh in the middle of Naggaroth, her homeland. In doing so, she does something that is not only forbidden but also life-threatening: She binds demons of Slaanesh and channels Chaos magic, which is considered destructive and uncontrollable. Morathi, however, uses it as a tool without succumbing to Chaos.
The “End Times”, the time of the end of the world, was spent by Morathi trying to reunite the Elves – with Malekith as the rightful Phoenix King. She achieved this mostly through intrigue and less through pure magical power. In the end, she is even one of the few who survive the end of the world and transition into a new setting: Age of Sigmar.
