The best books about Xenos in Warhammer 40,000 and everything that is not human
Warhammer 40,000 offers far more than just humans and their genetically optimized super versions. The whole world is full of peoples that are sometimes so exciting, that they can convert die-hard Space Marine fans.
Not all of the peoples have their own and recommendable novels; however, some even count among the best stories from the entire world of Warhammer 40,000.
1. The Twice-Dead King
The Necrons are an ancient people who have been sleeping for many millions of years and are waiting to be able to dominate the galaxy again. Behind them, however, lies a tragic story of despair and betrayal.
The space robot mummies are not only an exciting faction, but will probably soon be very important for the future of Warhammer 40000. In The Twice-Dead King series, you will accompany the banished Necron Lord Oltyx and learn more about the court intrigues and the awakening of the Necrons.
2. The Way of the Orks
If they didn’t constantly beat each other up, orks could rule the galaxy. The wild warrior species, which actually consists of quarrelsome mushrooms, excites many fans who see in the Orks more than just the dumb brutes they seem to be.
The Way of the Orks by Mike Brooks is written from the perspective of the Orks and is therefore… a bit strange. Dark, quite humorous at the same time, and of course with plenty of fighting and brawling.
3. The Path of the Dark Eldar
Once, the Aeldari ruled the galaxy until, due to their hubris, they not only caused their own downfall but also awakened the Chaos God Slaanesh. Since then, they have been a dying people.
The few who still indulge in excess are the Dark Eldar, or Drukhari, who can only live by torturing others. The Path of the Dark Eldar gives you an insight into the culture of the fallen empire and the city of Commorragh, which manages to escape Slaanesh’s grip outside of reality.
If you want to dive into the world of Warhammer 40,000, the books and audiobooks are certainly a good choice. By the way: many audiobooks are narrated by Emma Gregory, who also provided the voice for Minthara from Baldur’s Gate 3.
However, if you don’t feel like reading so much or prefer to experience the stories interactively, Warhammer now offers really good video games – some of which require little to no knowledge. In our list, you will find the 7 best games to get into the world of Warhammer.
