Planescape

Planescape is a Dungeons & Dragons setting that, similar to Spelljammer, focuses on traveling between different realms. It emphasizes the exploration of the various planes of existence. Planescape particularly focuses on the outer planes, which include the hells, heavens, and the abyss, as well as the inner planes, which include the elemental planes and their intermediate realms.
Central to the setting is the city of Sigil, which is built on the inner side of a huge, floating ring and serves as a mystical nexus through which one can enter all planes.
It is also known as the city of doors, as every door, passage, and frame in it can potentially be a portal to another world or plane of existence, provided one possesses the right access, known as a “key”. These keys are often more metaphorical than physical, usually taking the form of a specific thought, gesture, or feeling.
However, even though the city seems like a place of possibilities, its inhabitants mostly refer to it as “the Cage”. For it is not so easy to leave, and you can only enter if you are invited. At the center of events often stands the mysterious “Lady of Pain”, who is also the sole ruler of the city and who can bring even gods to their knees.
The setting revolves heavily around philosophy, ideologies, and the influence of belief systems on reality. It is less focused on classic adventures with epic battles and more on complex concepts, moral questions, and unusual encounters.
