The dominant time of the assault rifle Grau 5.56 in Call of Duty: Warzone is probably coming to an end. Here we present 3 strong setups that you can enjoy before the nerf.
Why is the Grau facing a nerf? Although it is not 100% confirmed, the developers have already made quite clear statements about a possible nerf of the popular assault rifle Grau 5.56. In Call of Duty: Warzone, the interplay of its strengths is an unbeatable mix:
- The Grau has the highest range of the assault rifles
- The fastest time to aim down sights (ADS time) in its class
- A strong iron sight on the important Archangel barrel
- Easily controllable recoil, as it tends to rise rather than drift sideways
As a disadvantage, it has a higher time-to-kill (TTK) than most of its relatives, but if every shot hits and distance hardly matters, this becomes insignificant.

Grau plays excellently in Warzone – 3 setups for farewell
How should I modify the Grau 5.56 in Warzone? Strong builds of the AR in the battle royale are based on 3 pillars:
- Monolithic Suppressor
- Archangel Barrel
- Larger Magazine
Thanks to the suppressor, you remain invisible on the mini-map when firing. Additionally, the monolithic suppressor increases your range. The barrel provides you with the strong iron sight and further increases the already strong range. A larger magazine is favorable for most weapons in Warzone, as it allows you to apply more pressure and take out multiple enemies in succession.
For the other attachments, you can adjust according to your preferences. A strong foregrip to further increase stability, a grip or stock to improve mobility, or a sight for more accurate long-range shots. More information about the Grau 5.56 can be found here:
Standard setup for all Grau enthusiasts
- Muzzle: Suppressor (Monolithic)
- Barrel: Tempus 26.4″ Archangel
- Ammo: 50-round magazine
- Underbarrel: Commando Foregrip
- Grip: XRK Void 2
With this Grau, you can hit anything that isn’t behind cover with a little practice. It’s really easy to keep the weapon on target and even counter snipers when you see their reflections.
Range setup with sight and MP
- Muzzle: Suppressor (Monolithic)
- Barrel: Tempus 26.4″ Archangel
- Ammo: 50-round magazine
- Underbarrel: Commando Foregrip
- Sight: VLK 3.0x Sight
Here, you attach a sight instead of the grip. This loses some ADS speed, but you can take aim at opponents even more securely. The VLK comes with only minor disadvantages and offers a quick 3x zoom. Setup without stock with 60 rounds
- Muzzle: Suppressor (Monolithic)
- Barrel: Tempus 26.4″ Archangel
- Ammo: 60-round magazine
- Underbarrel: Marksman Foregrip
- Stock: No stock
The stock gives you more mobility than the Void grip, but the Grau loses some stability this way. However, you can attach the 60-round magazine to deal more damage at once. The Marksman Foregrip compensates for the recoil disadvantage of the stock but also takes away some mobility again. If it’s a bit too sluggish for you, switch to the 50-round magazine or revert to the Commando Foregrip.
Grau nerf would be the first major intervention in weapon balance
If the nerf comes, it would be the first major intervention in CoD MW 2019’s weapon meta. Although there has already been a nerf for the overpowered weapons M4A1 and MP5 a few months ago. However, it was so weak that the guns still remain at the top of the best weapons for Modern Warfare.
Which weapon should I take instead? The list of strong assault rifles in Warzone is long. If the Grau is no longer worthwhile, it is likely that the M4A1 will come back into focus. Also, the M13 with laser setup could find many fans. The stable AR plays quite similarly to the Grau but consumes much more ammunition. The new AMAX also has a good chance of establishing itself over certain distances.
It will be exciting to see how Infinity Ward approaches the issue. When the shotgun 725 was too strong at the release of CoD MW, the developers gradually changed the weapon over 3 patches. This allowed the weapon to integrate into the game without completely losing its usefulness. At this point, however, it is still entirely uncertain how and if the Grau will be nerfed. Therefore, we already say “Good Bye Grau” as a precaution.
