Grave of the Fireflies is one of the most notorious films that one wants to watch just once in a lifetime and then never again. Besides the tragedy of the film, which depicts the survival of a boy and his little sister in Japan during World War II, it is also exceedingly graphic in terms of the violence and horror of war.

It addresses and vividly depicts the real circumstances of the time: hunger, loss, illness, and death. It shows lifeless, decaying bodies, dying children, cries of anguish, and the suffering of those who must witness all of this.

The story of the siblings is heart-wrenching and moving, yet for children, this film could be a bit too much, and very likely so.
