Monster House (2006)
- 6.7/10 (via IMDb)
- FSK 6
It is a house that attacks and devours people – that should explain enough. The film is about a boy trying to retrieve his toy from the yard of the aggressive neighbor. The neighbor then suffers a heart attack due to a screaming fit and is taken away in an ambulance. Strange things then begin to happen near the creepy house, which is why the boy, along with his two friends, wants to find out more (than they had hoped for afterwards).
The background story as well as the design and atmosphere of the house are incredibly creepy. Surprisingly, Monster House is also a quite humorous film with good jokes that is definitely worth watching. At least, if the film did not completely scare you as a child.
Watership Down (1978)
- 7.6/10 (via IMDb)
- FSK 6
Watership Down is about a group of rabbits that flee their burrow and face many dangers in search of a new home. This film is hardly surpassable in visual cruelty in a children’s film: violence, blood, mass animal killings, visions of heaps of corpses – Watership Down has all of that and more. Rabbits fight to the death, are torn apart by predators, and must repeatedly realize that this is the cruel game of nature.
Upon its original release, the film received the U
rating from the British Board of Film Classification for Universal
, meaning that the film was suitable for all ages. It was followed by countless complaints regarding the age rating.
