The Witches (1990)
- 6.8/10 (via IMDb)
- FSK 6
Fewer children’s movies depict villains who want to kill children (to put it bluntly). The witches in this film are frightening, either due to their sinister plan or their visual depiction in the film, which for many children likely served as their first encounters with body horror.
They remove their hair and faces, transforming into (admittedly impressive) monsters through makeup that can induce disgust even in adults.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1971 & 2005)

2005:

The second Ronald Dahl adaptation on this list. Is there a connection here?
Both film adaptations of his novel tell the story of a poor boy who wins a ticket to the most fantastical chocolate factory in the world, which, however, is marked by nightmarish images and scenarios.
It starts innocently enough, but the chocolate factory in question begins to claim
the visiting children one by one, while little colorful men cheerfully sing songs.
An absolutely macabre idea visually pushed to the extreme with a mix of nightmare and drug trip.
