The somewhat unfortunate franchise Hellgate may experience a revival in 2016. The Korean rights holders are betting on virtual reality.
Hellgate has a long decline behind it. A year ago, they essentially announced the end of the ailing IP: Hanbitsoftware ceased development on Hellgate 2. The Koreans had acquired the rights to the “Hellgate” brand from Flagship Studios.
Apparently, they’ve now found something new in Korea to do with the license. For 2016, Hanbitsoftware announces “Hellgate VR.” It is set to be a “horror shooter” that they want to develop together with a virtual reality company. Hellgate is supposed to deliver the dark and unique setting for Hellgate VR.
