What kind of weapon is that? In Helldivers 2, new weapons are constantly being added for the players. Due to patches and balancing changes, the best weapons in the game keep changing, and each mission has its own requirements along with the perfect equipment.
Now the Helldivers have received an ancient weapon. In reference to the M1903 Springfield from World War I, the R2124 Constitution is now in the players’ armory.
The weapon is just as old as it is bad: a magazine holds only 5 rounds, and the damage of 180 is not very high either. The bolt-action rifle doesn’t pull much, and you will hardly run out of ammunition in combat; however, the rate of fire at 60 is extremely low.
The R2124 Constitution is not a good weapon, but players still like it. The reason for this is a feature.

Thanks to the bayonet, a favorite among players
What kind of feature is that? The R2124 Constitution has a bayonet mounted on the barrel of the weapon, just like its predecessor. This allows for melee attacks that deal even more damage.
While the R2124 Constitution is not a good weapon in itself, it is simultaneously the first melee weapon in the game. For players, a long-awaited wish is coming true. They have been longing for melee weapons in their arsenal since the launch of the game.
Is the weapon useful? Although the weapon is terrible for ranged combat and with one magazine, you often can’t even defeat one opponent, you can make the weapon usable.
By focusing entirely on melee combat, you can actually make the weapon usable. For this, you need to equip the PH-202 TWIGSNAPPER armor.
This heavy armor increases melee damage by 50%. The damage is further enhanced by the bayonet. This allows you to effectively combat small and medium enemies in close combat. The armor also provides enough defensive stats to survive longer in close combat.
However, against large enemies or many robots, you have hardly any chance. Here, melee combat won’t be effective, and you won’t have much success.
Is the weapon just a meme? Yes and no. The R2124 Constitution was already present in the first part of Helldivers and was already the worst weapon back then. Players mainly use it for challenges and to make their lives a little harder.
That it now serves as a sort of melee weapon in Helldivers 2 is probably also a wink from the developers, who answer the players’ calls for melee weapons with this very weapon. Some players therefore consider the weapon a meme (via Reddit).
