In Helldivers 2, the brave fighters of Over-Earth are still due a cape. The developers have now spoken up and said that it is ready, but they would still like to wait.
What kind of cape is this? At the beginning of May, an update shook the Helldivers 2 community. Sony, the publisher of Helldivers 2, wanted to force all players to create a PSN account and link their existing account to it.
While this situation already caused some trouble, one fact pushed it over the edge. Helldivers 2 was sold in countries where the Playstation Network did not offer a service, meaning they could not create an account and would have been excluded from the transition.
How did the community react? The Helldivers 2 community spoke out loudly on the internet and through review-bombing on Steam. The game lost its good rating on Steam within days and even the community manager called for the game to be rated poorly and subsequently lost his job.
Ultimately, Sony backed down and heeded the players’ wishes. The fans’ protest was also creative; one fan created a cape from the pattern of Steam reviews that also captured the attention of the developers (via X.com).
As compensation, players were supposed to actually receive this protest cape, but it has been quiet about it for a while. Now the developers have finally spoken out.

The cape is finished, but it is not coming yet
What about the cape? The developer and former CEO of Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt, was asked about the cape on X.com by a user. This user wanted to know what was going on with the cape and if it was still coming, as they hadn’t heard anything in a long time.
Pilestedt responded on X.com: “That’s correct. It’s ready on our end, but we want to find the right time to release it.”
This response also triggered reactions from the community.
How did the community react? Some voices from the Helldivers 2 community spoke up under the developer’s response. @BradleyDorector writes on X.com: “It would be a good move to release it simultaneously with the reintroduction of the game in the other regions […]” referring to the fact that Helldivers 2 cannot still be purchased in many regions where it was previously possible.
@Sniperson2002 is looking forward to X.com: “I will never take off the cape once it’s released. <3”. @El_And_er_son suggests on X.com to make the cape unlockable as a “challenge reward”.
When and how the cape will be unlocked is still unknown. Nevertheless, most people are just looking forward to when it happens. Another good deed that the Helldivers players and the developers have done together: Developers of Helldivers 2 are advocating for the rescue of children because you did the same in the game.
