The Helldivers 2 community had to choose between sick children and explosive toys – now they regret their choice.
What is the deal with the sick children? In June, there was a general order that put players in a nasty dilemma in Helldivers 2:
- They either free a planet that provides resources to manufacture anti-tank mines
- or they free a planet with a hospital for very sick children
Only the first planet that players could free from their enemies would be saved.
Ultimately, the brave Helldivers listened to their hearts instead of their greed for new, explosive toys and saved the sick children. They still do not have the anti-tank mines.
However, a new update for Helldivers 2 is set to be released in August, bringing a new feature that has some players reconsidering their decision.

Players fear that saving the children could backfire
What is the community saying now? With the Helldivers update “Escalation of Freedom”, there will be some new enemies, including the “Rocket Tank”. A name that describes the steel monster very well. Some players wish they had the anti-tank mines in their repertoire when seeing the new enemy.
The Reddit user ConstructionWhich622 believes they should take the mines in the future and writes: “Screw the children, next time.” Over 3,900 users show their agreement with an upvote on Reddit.
However, some players suspect that the mines wouldn’t do much against the tank. It seems very stationary and likely fights at long distances. Other users counter that they could request the drop of the mines at the position of the tank. This would also prevent more tanks from coming from that direction.
What makes the new enemy so frightening? The Rocket Tank fights on the side of the robots and is – broadly speaking – just a big tank with 33 barrels from which it fires rockets. The tank can fire directly at you or fire like an artillery strike into the air, so the rockets find their way to you from above.
Rockets are really annoying in Helldivers. If they don’t eliminate you in fractions of a second, they throw you through the air with the explosion of the rocket – and when you land, the next rocket is already hitting. The Rocket Annihilator often reminded us of that.
Nonetheless, there are some players who clearly state: It was definitely worth saving the sick children in Helldivers 2 because the developers of the shooter took this as an opportunity to do the same in real life: Developers of Helldivers 2 advocate for saving children because you did the same in the game
